ktown konnection #42 | Youn Yuh-jung joins "Beef," Yeon Sang-ho's "Hellbound" returns

Fortune telling a thriving industry

IN THIS ISSUE:

  • Youn Yuh-jung joins season 2 of Netflix’s “Beef”

  • What’s dominating non-English content? Spanish and Korean titles

  • Seoul getting its own Times Square

  • Where can you find fortune tellers in Korea? (The industry is thriving.)

PREMIERES

  • October 25 “Hellbound 2” (Netflix)

This week’s premieres Kim Sung-cheol (“Our Beloved Summer”) and Kim Hyun-joo (“The Bequeathed”) are back in “Train To Busan” filmmaker Yeon Sang-ho’s second season of horror series “Hellbound;” this week’s only major premiere. Stay tuned: next month brings us Gong Yoo, Woo Do-hwan, Kim Se-jeong, and so much more!

What I’m watching New series “Love in the Big City” was unexpectedly honest and heart-wrenching, a beautifully acted and directed story that has you rooting for Go Young (played by Nam Yoon-su) so badly through all the ups and downs of modern love that your heart aches for him to finally find the real deal. (Note: It’s for a mature audience.)

Offscreen, the series has faced backlash from conservative groups; it’s a queer romance, a still-very-much taboo subject in Korean culture.
